New Sony Playstation Suite SDK For Android & PS Vita

Come November, Sony is going to release a new PlayStation Suite Software Development Kit or SDK that will let developers create games for all certified PlayStation Devices. Apart from conventional PlayStation consoles, developers can use this new PlayStation Suite to create game for the Android powered Xperia Play or PlayStation Phone as well as the new handheld, PlayStation Vita.

The primary benefit of new PlayStation Suite SDK for developers is definitely going to be the fact that they will be able to build games for PlayStation certified Android devices, hence giving them access to a whole new market. Using PS Suite SDK developers will also be able to create games for the newly launched handheld, PlayStation Vita. Due to the fact that all programming tools are C# based, developers will also be able to create a wide range of content apart from games and have it distributed across a number of PlayStation certified devices without incurring any extra charge.

Sony clarifies:

By supporting development for multiple devices and by adopting libraries to create a variety of content not only limited to games, PS Suite SDK will not only help developers save their cost in creating new content but also allow them to efficiently create their content on one SDK and without having to create on several different SDKs

That’s not all, when October approaches its end Sony will start pushing all PlayStation Store content over to PlayStation Suite devices. This transfer will initially be started with PlayStation One games. Sony claims that by Spring 2012 the PlayStation Store will be fully optimized for PlayStation Suite devices.

This move by Sony is going to be much appreciated by the developers who will now have access to a broader market thanks to the new PlayStation Suite SDK. Developers will also benefit from the fact that their games will not only be limited to a particular PlayStation device, rather they’ll be able to port it over to other PlayStation certified devices as well. At the moment Sony has not provided an exact release date for the new PlayStation Suite SDK, however we expect it to be released in the middle of November.
